Strathcarron Hospice is a vital part of our community and needs our support!

Having watched the team at work in a personal capacity looking after my dad, extended family members - and whilst working in the hospice the last year - I am acutely aware of the incredible work they do. All with a smile on their face to support others.

As a charity they only receive under a third of their funding via the NHS and the rest has to be donated.

As a community we need to do all we can to give something back. You never know when you or one of your family or friends may need their specialist care and support.

WE ARE 45!

Strathcarron turns 45 in my 45th year and I would like to hot a target of £4545 (including gift aid). I'm leaving my three kids, partner and luxuries behind and taking on a personal life challenge of trekking across Cambodia with a team of strangers to historic Angkor Wat in tropical conditions. And sleeping in a tent!

It will be a test of my emotional and physical resilience and strength, but having watched my dad go through 9 months of cancer treatment and as he lived out his final moments, it made me realise the fragility of life and the importance of making every moment count.

We have to set ambitious goals for ourselves (however daunting they may feel sometimes!) and it's important for me to role model for my kids that it's good to help others in your community and push yourself out of your comfort zone.

This is where the personal growth happens.

My aim is to raise as much as I can to help another family to receive the exceptional treatment and support from Strathcarron we did.

To help others feel enveloped in the love and care that the hospice provides - from the medical staff who provide the clinical care, to the domestics and cleaners who pop in with a cuppa or clean and have a chat, to the meals you are served in the cafe.

For me it's about paying it forward, as someone else so generously chose to do which me my loved ones benefitted from.

I would meant the world to me if you could donate - every pound will make a difference!

THE CHALLENGE

My challenge starts in Siem Reap, ideally situated to explore the ancient capital of the mighty Khmer Empire. We trek over the hills, through the valleys and dense forests of the surrounding area, ascending to the upper plain of Kulen Mountain.

This region is rich not only in history but in beautiful landscapes and the rural way of life which has little changed for centuries. Our trek will be a hot and dusty one, but the famous smiles of this remarkably friendly country will carry us on to our finish point at Angkor Wat, one of the most renowned and impressive sights in Southeast Asia. Littered with temples, Angkor Wat provides the most amazing of finish lines to our epic challenge.
