Alan's family pay for a day in his memory Fifty-nine year-old Alan Brisbane has been remembered by his family in a special way by funding a day of care in Strathcarron Hospice which helped care for him. The family of Alan, from Stenhousemuir, has been fundraising since 2021 for the Hospice in his memory, taking on various fundraising challenges - from party nights to step challenges, to raffles and abseiling off the Falkirk Wheel. On Monday 1 December, Alan’s family marked the milestone of having raised an incredible target of paying for a day of care. Strathcarron Hospice needs to raise around £19,452 a day to provide all their services, which are free to those who use them across our local communities. Alan's daughter Jennifer said: “Alan was known to many as a true gentleman who always thought of others first. In honour of his caring nature, we decided to set the target of raising enough to fund a day of Strathcarron’s services, following the Hospice at Home support he received in his final month. "Alan passed away peacefully at home with his girls by his side, at the age of 59. For those who don't know, Alan was diagnosed with stage four lung cancer which metastasised to his brain. He had no symptoms until he had an unexplained seizure in March and was admitted to hospital. He had radical radiotherapy which seemed to be effective, however the cancer spread rapidly to his bones within his last two months. Throughout this, Alan remained brave, resilient, and positive without being unrealistic. In character of him, he was always more concerned for us and how we were feeling. “He wanted to be at home for his last few weeks with us and his 'pooches', and he was, thanks to Strathcarron's specialist services. Alan did not lose a fight against cancer because sadly cancer is not selective. “He will be missed hugely by us all. This in honour of such a wonderfully kind and caring gentleman, our amazing Alan.” Find out more about fundraising in aid of the Hospice Fundraising involvement | Strathcarron Hospice Manage Cookie Preferences
