Brothers set fundraising goal with football match in memory of mum “It was a devastating life event for all our family and especially our two sons Louis and Marc." Two brothers from Bannockburn are set to take each other on in a charity football match in memory of their mum Lynne who died of a brain tumour. Keen footballers Louis and Marc Kilgannon are set to host the ‘Love For Lynne Charity Fundraising Match: Louis vs Marc & Friends’ on 21 March at Westfield Park, the home of Dunipace Football Club in Denny, in aid of Strathcarron. Lynne, who worked with Stirling Council, collapsed in December 2024 and was diagnosed with a Glioblastoma brain tumour. As her condition deteriorated, Lynne was supported at home by Strathcarron Hospice Clinical Nurse Specialist team, before being transferred to the Hospice In-Patient unit where she died, surrounded by her loved ones, on 1 September 2025. Lynne’s sons Louis (24) and Marc (21), alongside dad James, have chosen to fundraise for the Hospice to give something back for the exceptional care she received. James said: “Lynne died after a 10-month illness which in all is difficult to describe. We were guided through her illness by the fantastic Community Nurse Specialist Team from Strathcarron Hospice where Lynne was able to be at home up until her final few days spent in the Hospice itself. “Lynne’s wish was to be at home. “The day after Lynne’s funeral Louis and Marc suggested a fundraising football match for Strathcarron Hospice. The Hospice requires almost £20,000 per day to function and the three of us are determined to raise that amount to honour their mum and give something back. “Youth football and football in general has shaped our family. Marc played for Milton FC and Dunipace FC, Louis played for Milton FC and I coached both at the boys club. The boys choosing football to give back something and honour their mum felt natural and really inspiring.” Marc and Louis A matter of months following the death of Lynne, the family along with friends has amazingly raised over £13,200 so far, which they say has given them a shared purpose. James added: “We have found having the fundraiser to focus on is helping us. I have struggled with it all a bit at times, as it’s really amazing to have seen all the donations coming in, but then the reason we are doing it is because Lynne is no longer here which is tough. “The support from everyone has been humbling, not just in the amount raised so far, but how quickly the young yins have backed Louis and Marc. It has made me very emotional. “What we are doing is really positive though and I am proud of the boys and what they have achieved.” The charity match will be followed by a fundraising event at Cowie Bowling Club starting at 6:30pm. For tickets to this in aid of event for Strathcarron in memory of Lynne at Cowie Bowling Club, or to donate items for the raffle or auction contact [email protected]. The family would like to thank Jintz Express, Dunpiace FC, Cowie Bowling Club and Staiton Flooring for sponsoring the match, and especially everyone who has donated, bid, sponsored and been so generous in memory of Lynne.
