Celebrate 45: Be Part of the Next Chapter at Strathcarron Hospice

For 45 years, Strathcarron Hospice has been at the heart of local communities, providing specialist palliative and end-of-life care, free of charge, to people across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.

At the beginning of this year, Strathcarron Hospice launched the Celebrate 45 initiative with its local community lighting up local landmarks. It is now calling on individuals, schools, community groups and businesses to play their part in ensuring their local hospice is here for the next 45 years and beyond.

Strathcarron Hospice is a charity. Every day, over 80% of its care is delivered in people’s homes -supporting patients and families where they feel most comfortable. Whether in the hospice building or out in the community, the mission remains the same:

We are in your community, for your community, and with your community - ensuring people can live well and die well.

But, this vital care is only possible thanks to the ongoing generosity and commitment of local people.

How You Can Get Involved?

There are so many ways to be part of Strathcarron’s Celebrate 45:

  • Volunteer your time: In the hospice, in one of our shops, or at events, in admin - we’ve lots of interesting roles and experiences.
  • Fundraise your way: Take on a personal challenge, or organise your own event.
  • Join a hospice challenge: Walk 45 miles in April or, the forthcoming Big Birthday Tea or check out our many other events and challenges.
  • Partner as a business: Choose Strathcarron as your charity of the year or via Payroll Giving or many other ways.
  • Use our Celebrate 45 inspiration leaflet: Packed with creative ideas to help you get started

Whether you raise £4.40, £45 or £45,000, every penny makes a difference.

Three members of the Strathcarron team are leading by example and encouraging the community to get involved.

Susan Bateman, Ward Manager, is training with her family for Tough Mudder in June and her colleagues for the Strathcarron 10k in October.

“Every day on the ward, I see the difference hospice care makes - not just to patients, but to entire families. It’s about dignity, comfort and making every moment count. Celebrate 45 is a reminder that this care doesn’t just happen; it’s made possible by our community. If we want to be here for the next 45 years, we all have a role to play - whether that’s volunteering, fundraising or simply spreading the word that we are a charity.”

Katy Whitelaw, Communication’s Officer, is in training for the Angkor Wat Trek in November.

“One of the biggest misconceptions is that hospice care is fully funded. The reality is that we are a local charity and rely heavily on the generosity of local people. Celebrate 45 is about pride and participation - showing that we are in your community, for your community and with your community. By getting involved, people aren’t just supporting Hospice Care; they’re protecting a service that so many families will need in the future”.

Andrew Craig, Charity Shop Volunteer and member of staff is joining the communications team as a Volunteer to raise awareness of Strathcarron and Celebrate 45.

“Volunteering in the charity shop makes me feel part of something really special. Every item we sell in our charity shops help fund care for people in our own community. Celebrate 45 is about recognising that every donated item, every shift volunteered and every conversation at the till helps keep this care going. It feels good to know that what we do here really matters.”

A Community Effort for the Future

Every single day, Strathcarron Hospice must raise £19,452 to continue delivering its services. While it receives some statutory funding, the majority comes from the community it serves. Celebrate 45 is more than an anniversary - it’s a moment to reflect, reconnect and recommit.

If you have ever known someone supported by Strathcarron Hospice, shopped in one of its charity shops, taken part in an event, or simply believe in compassionate care close to home, now is the time to act.

Help ensure your local hospice lasts another 45 years.
