Denny Snowdrop Café recently celebrated a community Christmas lunch as part of a donation of a £1000 from the CFSLA Lottery.

For more than 25 years, Clackmannanshire Falkirk Stirling Local Authorities (CFSLA) Lottery has been donating proceeds to local community groups and charities to improve the welfare of people living in the three Forth Valley local authority areas.

Snowdrop Cafes are a free space for people of any age to meet and have a blether. They are run by volunteers in the community, for the community. Although not a fundraising initiative,  any money donated by attendees is put back into the café running costs.

Helen McNaught, CFSLA Chair, said: “Strathcarron Hospice is one of the charities we know our members want to support in recognition of how their work touches so many people’s lives. When Lottery members fundraise for their own chosen charities, CFSLA Lottery can top up whatever they raise up to £250, and we have topped up fundraising for the Hospice in the past.  So we are pleased to have this opportunity to show a little bit more support through this donation to the Snowdrop Cafe at Christmas time.”

Jayne Lamond, a Community Development Worker /Snowdrop Cafe Co-ordinator for Strathcarron Hospice, said: “Volunteers from the Denny Snowdrop Café were delighted to host a Christmas lunch for 38 people on Thursday and a visit from Santa which we could not have held without this donation.

“The money has helped us guarantee hall let and food costs each week for the next wee while providing a place where people can come alongside one another, feel welcome, make friendships, enjoy activities and feel a sense of belonging. We are very grateful to the CFSLA for their generous support for the local community.

“We would also like to give thanks to Kirk’s Butcher’s in Denny and Carmuirs Farm Shop for their food donations for the Christmas meal. It was really heart-warming to bring together the community for this festive meal together.”

Jayne added: “I would like to thank all the Snowdrop Café Co-ordinators and volunteers across the area for all the work they do within their local communities to create a welcoming space to bring people together. It is hugely appreciated by everyone who attends.”
