Falkirk FC Physio Cammy takes on HYROX in memory of Papa John Falkirk FC’s first team physiotherapist Cammy took on a high intensity fitness challenge recently in memory of his papa John McAndrew who died in Strathcarron. Cammy competed in the gruelling men’s solo HYROX fitness challenge at the SECC in Glasgow whilst raising funds in aid of the Hospice. HYROX challenges take place around the globe, with participants running 1km followed by a functional workout station, repeated eight times. Cammy was moved to fundraise for the hospice due to Falkirk FC’s close links with Strathcarron as a corporate charity partner, and the exceptional care of John – known by friends and family as ‘Jack’. He said: “Strathcarron means something to me and everyone at Falkirk FC, so it just felt right to choose to support the hospice. “It has been giving me real motivation and drive to help seeing the work of the amazing team at Strathcarron who went above and beyond to take care of my Papa in his final few weeks when he was ill in January. They also did the same for Papa’s sister last year. “We can't thank them enough. Their ability to look after my Papa, but also care for the family as well was truly brilliant. They were always there 24/7 with cups of tea or a chat if we needed support. “Palliative care is such a sad field to work in and their ability to be there and listen is so special.” Jack, who lived in Bridge of Allan, was well known for his community work with Stirling County Rugby Football Club and “a Stirling County man through and through”. Cammy added: “I’m grateful for everyone for getting behind me for this challenge. I’ve have had some random donations from Falkirk fans who want to support me as they know how aligned the Club is with the Hospice which is really nice. “Fitness is really important to me – I used to play for Stirling County - and it’s helped me a lot after my Papa died. “It’s been a positive distraction. I have thrown myself into my training. When it’s been really tough I just remember my reasons why I’m doing it. “I think of my Papa and everyone at Strathcarron who does so much for the patients and their families, it just feels right to give back.” Strathcarron Hospice cares for over 1400 people every year at a time when both they and their family need it most.
