Generous Stirling Council employees donate over a quarter of a million to Strathcarron Generous Stirling Council employees have reached an incredible milestone of fundraising for Strathcarron Hospice - donating over £254,624 through payroll giving. Council staff can choose to opt in to donate directly through their wages each month to benefit Strathcarron, which is the largest independent Hospice in Scotland. The Hospice – which is a charity - needs £16,637 daily to provide vital free specialist palliative care and end of life care services to individuals and their families across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth. Only a third of Strathcarron’s costs are funded by the NHS, with donations, fundraising, retail income, gifts in wills and legacy giving making up the shortfall. Claire Kennedy, Corporate Fundraiser at Strathcarron Hospice, said: “We are very grateful to the staff at Stirling Council for their ongoing support. Payroll giving is a great source of regular income for the Hospice. “It is a really straightforward way of donating as you, the donator, don't need to do anything once it is set up. It's amazing how these gifts add up and goes to show that every penny really does make a difference. “As part of Payroll Giving Month in February we would love more businesses to sign up to support our local Hospice like Stirling Council. We can help organisations set up a payroll giving scheme. If you are interested in learning more, please get in touch.” In 2022-23 the Hospice provided care for 323 patients in the 24 patient bedded unit, supported 357 Hospice at Home patients including 3286 visits, carried out 6435 Community Nurse Specialists visits to 1109 new patients and made 8142 clinical calls. These services could not be provided without the support and generosity of the local community. Audrey Crawford, HR Team Leader at Stirling Council has been donating to the scheme since she started working for the local authority. Audrey said: “Many people in the area will have had family or friends who have been supported by Strathcarron, so I was really keen to donate directly to this wonderful charity on a regular basis to ensure it continues providing these free and specialist services to local communities “Setting up payroll giving at the council was quick and easy and then nothing else needs to be done as it comes out of your wages automatically each month. “It’s incredible to see the total amount raised for Strathcarron by Stirling Council staff since the scheme started. I would definitely encourage other organisations and businesses to sign up to payroll giving and support worthy causes like Strathcarron.” If your organisation would like to support Strathcarron Hospice as part of Payroll Giving Month you can find out more information by emailing [email protected] Photo (L-R): Aileen More, Audrey Crawford and Jennifer McCabe from Stirling Council Find out more about Fundraising Make A Donation or contact the Fundraising Team on 01324 826 222 email [email protected] Click here for more Strathcarron Hospice News Manage Cookie Preferences
