Hospice lymphoedema specialists on tour as part of Lymphoedema Awareness Week Did you know that the Hospice has a specialist Lymphoedema Clinic which is part of the Forth Valley Lymphoedema Service? It provides specialist treatment for people with lymphoedema from any cause - a condition which is a collection of lymph fluid which cannot drain away. Lymphoedema can be caused by a variety of factors including trauma, venous (any disease that affects your veins) and obesity. The result is swelling – often of the limbs but other parts of the body such as the head and neck or the trunk can be affected too. As part of Lymphoedema Awareness Week our specialist team will be out and about for people to get more information about the service: Tuesday Klondyke Garden Centre in Polmont 12-4pm Wednesday Forth Valley Royal 12-4pm Friday Clackmannan Community Health Centre 12-4pm John's Story One of our patients John has kindly shared his experience with us. John was treated for bowel cancer which impacted on his lymphatic system which led to the development of lymphoedema. John said: “I couldn’t get trousers or sandals on and my condition was getting worse. It was impacting on my mental health. “I made an appointment with Strathcarron’s Lymphoedema Service and after treatment the effect on my legs – it’s amazing the difference it has had on me and my mental health. Now I can wear trousers and do what I want to do. It’s all thanks to the staff at Strathcarron.” Visit our website for further info about our services: Lymphoedema Services | Strathcarron Hospice Manage Cookie Preferences
