Larbert High School Community Raises Over £8,000 for Strathcarron Hospice at Spectacular “Gratitude & Groove” Event

Disco balls sparkled, platforms were dusted off and the decades came alive as the incredible community of Larbert High School hosted their spectacular Gratitude & Groove fundraising event in aid of Strathcarron Hospice.

The unforgettable evening celebrated the Hospice’s 45th anniversary in true 70s, 80s and 90s style, bringing together pupils, teachers, families, local businesses and supporters from across the community, all united to support their local hospice.

The event has already raised an incredible £8,047 and counting to help provide specialist palliative and end of life care, alongside vital support for patients and families across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth.

From a vibrant pre-loved fashion show featuring pupils’ upcycled creations using items donated to Strathcarron’s charity shops, to live music, dance and community performances, the evening showcased not only outstanding talent but the extraordinary spirit of young people determined to make a difference.

Guests enjoyed a two-course meal generously supported by Malcolm Allan, Kinnaird Butchers, Three Little Pigs and Candied Ice Cream Parlour, while entertainment was provided by the school’s award-winning dance department, pupil performers Katie Walker and Ariana Cumming, alongside Toni Bruce, Ross Irvine, Barry Honeyman and Daniel Walsh.

Craft stalls, 3D imaging by Lewis Paxton and Strathcarron’s own pop-up retail shop added to the atmosphere, creating a true celebration of community partnership and giving back.

Fiona Hannah, Deputy Area Manager (Retail) at Strathcarron Hospice, said:

“We are completely overwhelmed by the support, generosity and kindness shown by Larbert High School and the wider community.

"This was so much more than a fundraiser, it was a celebration of compassion, creativity and community spirit. The energy and passion from the young people involved was truly inspiring, and we are incredibly grateful to every pupil, teacher, performer, volunteer, business and supporter who made the event possible.

"Without the support of our local communities, we simply could not continue to provide the care and support that so many families rely on every single day. With hospice costs now exceeding £19,452 a day, events like this make a real and lasting difference.

"To see young people championing hospice care with such heart and enthusiasm gives us great hope for the future. Thank you for standing beside Strathcarron Hospice and helping ensure compassionate care is here for everyone who needs it, for generations to come.”

Special thanks were extended to Head Teacher Jo Wilson, Sharon McLay, Mhairi McCainch, Ruth Hamilton, Georgina Farrell and Stephen Stafford for their dedication and support in bringing the event to life.

Strathcarron Hospice and Larbert High School have built a longstanding partnership over many years, including collaborative projects through the Scottish Government’s Young Person’s Guarantee and creative community initiatives that continue to inspire both pupils and the wider public.

The success of Gratitude & Groove is another shining example of what can be achieved when a community comes together with kindness, compassion and purpose.
