Laura's Skydive for the Hospice Laura has worked in Strathcarron’s Hospice at Home team for six years. This September she’s parachuting out of a plane - in Memory of her daugher - to raise money for the Hospice! Laura said, “My daughter Mary, was so well supported during her final weeks of life at Strathcarron Hospice. She was only in her twenties. The compassion, dignity, and care she - well all of us received - meant everything during an incredibly difficult time. I had only just started working on the bank staff in a temporary role at the Hospice, when Mary came into the ward for the last time. I felt so comforted, as I knew they would take great care of my daughter. It is a great privilege to now be a part of the Hospice at Home team. When a full time role became available three years ago, I applied and fortunately got the job. It’s a service that supports people to stay in their own homes at the end of life, surrounded by those they love. Everyone here at Strathcarron puts people and their families at the very heart of everything. Since losing my daughter, I feel I can fully empathise and sympathise with the family, as I know I deeply understand what they need. It’s lovely when the family tell you what a difference us being there has made for them. They feel happier that we’ve come into their home, as may have been feeling completely overwhelmed, as all they want is to provide the best care for their loved ones. So, when we arrive to help, they can relax more. They can be the Mum, the daughter, the husband or friend, rather than the carer. Some of the family members tell me that they can ‘breathe again’, as they can take a step back and are able to properly grieve. This September, in honour of my daughter and to support the Hospice, I’ll be doing something both terrifying and positive—a parachute jump to raise vital funds for Strathcarron. Please give whatever you can. Your donation will help someone else feel seen, supported, and held through the hardest days of their life”. Strathcarron is more than a place. It is a community of people who walk alongside families at the most vulnerable time of their lives—offering personal, practical, and emotional support when it matters most. This care is only possible because of the generosity of people like you. Strathcarron is a charity, and every single day it must raise over £19,452 to keep these vital services What’s truly remarkable is the emotional depth of our teams. Many have experienced grief themselves, and they carry that empathy with them into every person on the ward, in every home they visit. They understand, not just clinically but personally, what it means to love and to lose. That shared humanity shapes every conversation, every gentle touch, and every silent moment of simply being there.
