Employees at science and technology company Merck’s site in Stirling took on the amazing challenge of an office virtual cycle from London to Paris raising vital funds for Strathcarron Hospice.

As a group of Strathcarron fundraisers set off on bikes travelling from London to Paris on a 309 mile challenge, employees at Merck decided to hold their own virtual event with staff taking turns to cycle on two static exercise bikes.

With true commitment and dedication to the cause, the Merck team smashed the target and achieved an awesome 725 miles over the 3 days virtually covering the distance from London to Paris and back as far as Newcastle.

So far, with donations still coming in, the team has raised £2,613 for the charity with this activity.

Roslyn Cameron, Merck Director, Operations and Stirling Site Manager, said “This was an amazing event organised by our fantastic Employee Activity Group. It involved representatives from all departments on the site. Great teamwork, collaboration, hard work, and effort along with some fun thrown in! It was an amazing achievement and I’m proud to be part of this wonderful team.  Many of our colleagues have had friends or family that availed of the services of the Hospice, so it is a charity close to our hearts”.

Merck is a leading science and technology company, operating across the UK including sites in Stirling, Glasgow, Livingston, and Irvine. The Merck team has been fundraising for the Hospice as their chosen charity since 2020.

Merck’s Employee Activity Group supports and encourages employees to take part in fundraising efforts for the Hospice including taking part in the kiltwalk, abseils, skydives, marathons, head shaves, charity nights, bake sales, raffles and donating the profits from their tuck shop.

Claire Kennedy, Corporate Fundraiser with Strathcarron, said: “We would like to thank Merck and their staff for this generous donation and their continued support. Their staff have shown a fantastic enthusiasm and drive in fundraising for the Hospice, and it is great to see how others have adapted our overseas events to be able to take part virtually. This donation will have a vital impact on our work being able to support those most in need within our Hospice community.”
