Congratulations to one of our wonderful lymphoedema and lipoedema specialists Yolande who has been appointed voluntary Co-Chair of the British Lymphoedema Society (BLS).

The BLS is registered charity which aims to preserve and protect good health of people living with lymphoedema and chronic oedema, raise awareness of the conditions and promote strategy and best practice for the condition.

Lymphoedema occurs when the lymphatic drainage system fails.

Yolande said: “I have been a member of the BLS since I started working in lymphoedema so I’m really delighted to be voted into the Co-Chair role. It will be exciting as they do fantastic work and are constantly trying to move things forward in this area that I feel really passionately about.

“Lymphoedema and lipoedema are areas that are not well understood. They don’t tend to be included in undergraduate training for allied health professionals but our lymphatic system is amazing as it controls our fluid balance, and helps us fight infection. It has a huge impact on how well we live our lives.

“A lot of people don’t quite know what to do about it or how to manage the condition – we would love all health care professionals to have an understanding so they can get an early treatment plan in place for patients.”
