Employees at Merck’s Stirling site raised an incredible £19,000 for Strathcarron Hospice in 2024 - smashing their £10,000 fundraising target.

Merck is a leading science and technology company, operating across the UK including sites in Stirling, Glasgow, Livingston and Irvine. The Merck team has been fundraising for the Hospice as their chosen charity since 2020.

In 2023 they raised an incredible £9,201.75 with their fundraising efforts and set themselves the ambitious target of £10,000 for 2024.

Merck’s Employee Activity Group supports and encourages employees to take part in fundraising efforts for the Hospice including taking part in the Kiltwalk, abseils, zip slides, marathons, head shaves, charity nights, bake sales, raffles and donating the profits from their tuck shop!

Roslyn Cameron, Merck Director, Operations and Stirling Site Manager, said: “Once again, we are delighted to have been able to help Strathcarron Hospice with this donation from Merck UK. Many of our colleagues have had friends or family that used the services of the Hospice, so it is a charity close to our hearts.

“For such a small site of 93 employees to achieve the fundraising amount of £19,000 is incredible and we feel proud to support a cause so deserving whilst having lots of fun, teamwork and raising the bar along the way.”

Claire Kennedy, Corporate Fundraiser with Strathcarron, said: “We would like to thank Merck and their staff for this generous donation and their continued support. Their staff have shown a fantastic enthusiasm and drive to not only reach, but surpass their fundraising goal. This will have a vital impact on our work being able to support those most in need within our Hospice community.”

The Hospice needs £16, 637 a day to provide all the specialist palliative care and end of life care services to those they support.

In 2022-23 the Hospice provided care for 323 patients in our 24-patient bedded unit, supported 357 Hospice at Home patients including 3286 visits, carried out 6435 Community Nurse Specialists visits to 1109 new patients and made 8142 clinical calls.
