Strathcarron marks Nutrition and Hydration Week "Nutrition is important in all aspects of life, including when dying." Food is such an important part of life - even for those in the final stages that we care for. As part of Nutrition and Hydration Week (16-22nd March) our Hospice Dietician Honor shares her Strathcarron story: "I am passionate about nutrition within palliative care. "Nutrition is important in all aspects of life, including when dying. Food is a huge aspect of everyone’s life, and not just to provide nourishment but forms part of social activities, religious or cultural. "As a palliative care dietitian we support patients who are undergoing palliative treatment with the aim of maintaining their nutritional status during this time or minimising nutritional losses. "For those at end of life, the nutritional goals will often focus on quality of life and reducing anxiety around eating and drinking. "We also often play a role in reassuring patients and their family regarding nutrition in palliative care and end of life, and education of staff/colleagues on how they can support patient’s nutrition within this area”.
