Staff members Susan Bateman and Lyndsey Cardwell visited the Scottish Parliament this week to speak to elected representatives from across the political spectrum about the work we do to support people across Forth Valley, Cumbernauld and Kilsyth living with a life limiting condition as part of #HospiceCareWeek.

Hospice Care Week is a chance for all of us to champion hospice care nationwide.

The visit was also an opportunity to join with other hospice colleagues from across Scotland, to mark the incredible work that is being done to make sure everyone can benefit from the very best end of life care and highlight the costs involved with delivering this expert, specialist care.

Strathcarron Hospice needs to raise around £19,452 a day to provide all our services, which are free to those who use them across our local communities.

As well as In- Patient and Hospice at Home care, our highly skilled multidisciplinary teams include Nursing teams, Patient and Family Support (social work), Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacist, Chaplains, Complementary Therapists, Consultants in Palliative Medicine and Specialty Doctors.

With only around one third of our hospice funded by the Government, we are incredibly grateful to our generous supporters who make up the significant shortfall.

Hospice care is more than you think

On the wards, in the community, and in people's homes across the UK, hospices look after people who are approaching the end of life day in, day out.

Funding pressures mean our services are under threat like never before.

The need for hospice care is rising fast – but the cost of providing care is soaring, too.

That's not just a disaster for patients and families – it's bad news for the NHS, too. Politicians say they want to move more care out of big hospitals, into the community. That's exactly what hospices do across the UK – providing nearly 1.4 million home visits every year, helping keep people out of hospital.

Will you ask your MP to help?
