Izzy's Story I started befriending in 2024. I had cancer and vowed that if I came out of the other side of treatment okay that I would give something back to thank the universe. I was incredibly lucky to have my breast cancer caught early with the Scottish Breast Screening Programme. This was a huge motivating factor for me deciding to volunteer. I am good at blethering to people so thought I could put my skills to good use when I saw a Hospice advert for befriending. The lady I support is lovely. She used to attend the local Snowdrop Café but can no longer get out as much so it is nice for her to have some company. I don’t drive so it is handy I have been paired with someone close by. I enjoy our visits. She was very well travelled so every week she talks me through old photographs of her trips and we talk about her experiences which has been really interesting.
